HOWRAH: Bapan Saha, the 35-year-old who had set himself ablaze on the ramp in front of Nabanna on Friday, succumbed to burn wounds at SSKM Hospital early on Saturday. Sources said the state home department has sought a report from Howrah City Police on how Saha, with a container of kerosene in hand, managed to reach the spot barely 80-90 metres from Nabanna's main gate and set himself on fire. The report has been sought within 72 hours, a source said.

Howrah police commissioner Tanmay Raychowdhury said, "We have set up a special investigation team to probe how the incident happened. I will head the SIT. We will also check if there were any security lapses. The SIT will submit its report to the state on Monday."
