In Diwali mode, city police to intensify day-night patrolling
Cops will ensure strict adherence to SC diktat about firecrackers
The Ahmedabad police are all geared up for Diwali. In the coming days, they will be intensifying day as well as night patrolling across the city, especially around areas and establishments prone to thefts and robberies during the festive season.

The cops will also be keeping an eye on those violating the Supreme Court diktat of bursting firecrackers only between 8 pm and 10 pm.

Among that areas that will see increased patrolling are Satellite, Vastrapur, Ghatlodia and Sola. Police have urged people to inform them if they plan to travel out of station during the holidays so that they can patrol the area. They will also keep watch at main entry points to the city. Not just this, police personnel in plain clothes will be present at important stops of public transport vehicles like Geeta Mandir, Iskcon circle, Jodhpur crossroads, RTO Circle, Paldi, Naroda Odhav circle and Bapunagar. If needed, they will frisk suspicious-looking people.

There will be additional patrolling around banks and ATMs keeping in mind the possibility of higher number of people visiting these places. Officials also met watchmen of banks and ATMs and instructed them to call them immediately if they notice any suspicious movement around.

Daytime patrolling will be increased at Lal Darwaja, Manek Chowk, Gandhi Road, gold markets and C G Road among other places that are popular shopping destinations.

The cops will also be monitoring live footage from CCTV cameras in these areas from the control room and send personnel if anything suspicious is spotted.

Advising Amdavadis to be cautious, J K Bhatt, JCP-Crime Branch, said, “People should put their jewellery in lockers. They should also check whether the CCTV cameras in their societies are working. If not, they should get them repaired.

Where CCTVs are not already installed, they should be put up at the earliest. The chairmen and secretaries should tell their watchmen to be alert. Also, if one finds anything suspicious lying unclaimed on the streets, police should be informed immediately.”

Watch out

•Keep jewellery in lockers
•Ensure there are functional CCTVs in the society
•Leave a light on at home while going out
•Inform police if going out of station

•If pick pocketed, inform the police immediately instead of keeping it for later as that might give thieves time to flee from the area
