Wednesday, Nov. 7:  noon - 1 p.m. Library Needlecraft Club/Fell Room.  Join our group that meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month.  Free and open to the public – everyone is welcome! Bring your own needles and yarn or fabric and meet some other needlecraft enthusiasts.

Saturday, Nov. 10: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Craft Circle/South Branch. Bring a small portable project to work on and join us on Saturdays from now until Christmas for encouragement and fun!

11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Make a Fairy Tale Crown! /Children's Room. Children can create their own crowns using an assortment of glittering, colorful foam stickers. Each child attending has an additional enchanting surprise awaiting them.

Teen Fiction Book Discussion: Tuesday, Nov. 27, 6:30 - 7:30: Teens and adults are welcome to join us for our monthly book club always held the last Tuesday of each month. This month's selection is "The Hate U Give" by Angie Thomas.  Books available to borrow at the circulation desk. No sign up required. All ages welcomed.

Crafting for a Cause: Nov. 10 from 2 - 4 p.m.: All teens in grades 6-12 are welcome to join us for scheduled volunteer service hours. Teens will receive community service hours for Church, National Honor Society, court, school, etc. All supplies and instruction will be provided.

Thanksgiving Cooking: Nov. 15 at 5:30 p.m. All teens in grades 6-12 are welcome to join us as we make a chocolate pretzel turkey jar and seasoned crackers. Join Frank Grzyb at Portsmouth Free Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. for an enlightening and entertaining evening while he reexamines several historic events about America’s illustrious past that are not exactly as they appear. Kenneth Gloss, proprietor of the internationally known Brattle Book Shop in Boston’s Downtown Crossing section, will give a free and open talk about the value of old and rare books at Portsmouth Free Public Library on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. Gloss is also a frequent guest appraiser on PBS’ Antiques Roadshow. There is also a Q&A session before the conclusion of his talk.  Following the talk and question-and-answer session, he will give free verbal appraisals of all books that attendees have brought with them or will do so at his shop in Boston.     SOMERSET   Somerset Public Library, 1464 County St., Somerset; Phone: 508-646-2829.   On Saturday, Nov. 10 from noon to 2:30 p.m., Somerset Public Library will sponsor a free ceramics program with Pagano Creations. Come in and paint your own colorful ceramic turkey – perfect as a holiday centerpiece. All supplies are included as well as guided instructions. For ages 14 and up. Contact the library to register. Additional pieces will be available for purchase.

The kids have the day off from school on Nov. 6 so why not come down to the library for our fun escape room? This simplified escape room is an imaginary treasure hunt through time. Appropriate for all ages but children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Call the library to register for your 30-minute time slot either from 3 to 5 p.m. or 6 to 7:30 p.m. Recommended for groups of 6 but will accommodate larger groups if needed.

The Chess Club, which meets every Tuesday evening from 6 - 7:30 p.m. in the Reference Department, seeks additional members, and is recommended for ages 12 and up. Anyone interested in open games of chess and discussions about the game in a casual atmosphere are welcome. No experience is necessary, and members are happy to show new players the rules.

Robert Frost Poetry Night: The Swansea Free Public Library invites you to a very special evening: Poems for an Autumn Night: The Poetry of Robert Frost on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m.. Share a favorite Robert Frost poem, or read a favorite fall inspired poem. This poetry evening is held in memory of patron and poetry lover Winnie Welch. Refreshments will be served.

November is National Writing Month: Join us as at one of our four write-ins which will be held each Saturday in Nov. (10, 17, 24) from noon-3 p.m. Bring your notebook, laptop or use one of our computers to begin the Great American Novel. Each Saturday writers can use the Reference room and all the writing resources at the library. Coffee and tea will be provided. National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. Participants work towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 30. Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel.

If you choose to participate in NaNoWriMo but are writing something besides a novel, you are a NaNo Rebel. Some writers may choose to revise and edit their novels, while others wander into the worlds of nonfiction, video games, scripts, and academic writing. We at the Swansea Free Public Library encourage NaNo Rebels to begin their project. This year Simply Done, the coupon foodie club at the library will once again be hosting a Nanowrimo cookbook challenge by having each participant share a recipe a day for 30 days. The fun, food loving frugalistas meet every Monday from 2-3:30 p.m. to swap recipes and cut coupons. Bring your recipes to the meeting or share on the Simply Done Facebook Page or send recipes to simplydonecc@gmail.com

NaNoWriMo is not just for adults but for writers of all ages.

Food for Fines, through Nov. 16

The library will be accepting non-expired, non-perishable items items for families in need towards fine forgiveness. Each item will be used towards $1 of overdue fines. Bring items and your library card to the library to participate in this event. All donations will be given to the Amicable Church Thanksgiving Basket Drive to be held on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the library. Support local families in need and get your fines forgiven.

The library and Amicable Church will be partnering again to distribute Thanksgiving baskets to local families in need. Basket pick up will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Families and individuals who are finding it difficult to provide a Thanksgiving meal this year may contact the library to be added to the list of recipients. Partners Village Store and Kitchen, 865 Main Road, announces its fall children's reading circle will run through Dec. 6. Join Partners every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for an hour of stories and fun activities geared toward preschool children. Miss Joan has some wonderful stories planned and will lead a theme based arts and crafts activity after the story. Snack will also be provided. A guardian must accompany the child. This is a free event and registration is not required.
