A police officer has been attacked by a large Bullmastiff dog while attempting to handcuff a man outside a Redcliffe house on Saturday.
Police attended a house on Bulong Avenue around 11.30am after receiving reports a man, who was subject to an outstanding arrest warrant, was armed with a knife and making threats.
Upon arrival, it is alleged the 43-year-old man attempted to ride his motorcycle toward police to evade arrest, a police spokeswoman said.
"Before the man was able to accelerate on the motorcycle, an officer pulled the man from the motorcycle causing them both to fall onto the driveway," she said.
"As officers were attempting to handcuff the man, it is alleged a large Bullmastiff dog attacked one officer, latching onto his right calf."
The police officer was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for urgent medical treatment with deep wounds to his leg.
The Redcliffe man was charged with obstruct police officers and two counts of breach of bail.
The dog has been impounded pending further investigations.
