A man has been charged with murder after a woman's lifeless body was found outside a motel on Saturday.

The 58-year-old woman was discovered by paramedics outside Ferry Street Motel in Maryborough, on the Fraser Coast, shortly after 5am on Saturday morning.

The 22-year-old man charged with her murder was known to the victim, police said.

Detective Acting Inspector Wade Lee said the woman was dead when police arrived.

Witnesses said they heard screams before emergency services were called.

'There are a number of witnesses who were at the motel at the time and they are assisting us,' Insp Lee said.    

The woman's body was found outside the motel and a crime scene was established immediately.

The 58-year-old died of her injuries, but police haven't revealed what they were.

'This is not a random attack,' Inspector Lee said.

'Initial inquiries indicate that the parties involved in this incident are known to each other.'   

Police found the 22-year-old man at a residence nearby and arrested him.

'A combination of things led us to speak to this male person, including assistance from the public,' Inspector Lee said.

He is due to appear in the Maryborough Magistrates Court on Monday.
