Baby born with parasitic twin growing out of her torso is saved by surgeons at Indian hospital

- The twin had failed to develop properly and they also shared some vital organs
- Indian medics saved the baby girl in a two and a half-hour separation procedure
A parasitic twin attached to the torso of a seven-month-old baby girl has been surgically removed at a hospital in India.
The child was born with a twin attached to the upper part of her abdomen and the lower part of her chest. They also shared some vital organs.
In a two and a half-hour operation a paediatric surgeon separated the twin and its four extra limbs which had failed to develop fully during pregnancy.
The babies were successfully separated at Tura Civil Hospital in the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, India.

Paediatric surgeon Lee Roger Ch Marak, conducted the operation, which lasted for two & half hours.
He said: 'It was a complicated case. 'The parasitic twin was connected to the vital organs of the living twin.
'The liver, prolapsed intestine of the twin had come out of the girl's umbilicus.'
The baby girl was admitted at the hospital on September 11, and the procedure to remove the parasitic twin was successfully undertaken last week.
Dr Sangma, superintendent of the hospital, said: 'Without surgical intervention, it would have severely affected the living twin's growth'.
In a similar case last year a three-day-old baby in northwest China had his undeveloped twin separated from his lower back.
The parasitic twin was attached to the other foetus's sacrum, which is a triangular bone at a person's lower back.
The baby boy, named Akram, was saved by a similar separation procedure in an hour-long operation last December.
