Don’t depute women, samithi tells media
TNN | Nov 4, 2018, 23:38 ISTThiruvananthapuram: A joint platform of right-wing organizations has requested the media not to assign women journalists, aged below 50, to report the opening of the Sabarimala temple.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Sabarimala Karma Samithi said the government was adamant in taking women, aged between 10 and 50, to the temple.
“The entry of women journalists belonging to this age group as part of their job is likely to aggravate the situation,’’ said S J R Kumar, general convener of the samithi, which included the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Hindu Aikyavedi.
The temple will open for ‘Chithira Aatta Visesham’ on Monday evening and close at 10pm on Tuesday.
A few women journalists were among those assaulted when the temple was opened for the monthly puja last month.
Kumar said that he was hoping that the media organization, irrespective of their views, would “take a sympathetic approach to the feelings and aspirations of crores of devotees,” and refrain from deputing women journalists, he added.
