Four die in two accidents involving container trucks

CHENNAI: Four people were killed in two separate accidents involving container trucks in Thiruvottiyur and Kancheepuram on Friday night and Saturday morning.
Three members of a family were killed when a container truck collided head-on with their car at Chinnaiyan Chathiram near Kancheepuram on Saturday. Police said the victims were identified as Javid, 23, Fazil, 25, and Rayeez, 23. The three along with six other relatives were travelling in a car from Chennai to Yercaud. Police said Fazil, who was driving the car, lost control of the vehicle and smashed through the median before colliding with the container lorry.
Javid, Fazil and Rayeez died on the spot, while the other six suffered injuries. The bodies were sent to the government hospital in Kancheepuram for autopsy, with the injured being admitted to the same hospital for treatment. Police said the container lorry was headed from Maharashtra to Chennai. The Kancheepuram taluk police registered a case and further investigations are on.
Earlier on Friday night, Ravikumar, 35, a resident of Mylapore, was killed when a container truck rammed into his bike from behind near Appar Swamy Koil in Thiruvottiyur. In the impact, he fell down and suffered severe head injuries. Passersby rushed him to a private hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
