CHENNAI: BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday said people should be made to celebrate Diwali without fear. Without directly referring to the Supreme Court’s order that imposed restrictions on the use of fireworks, Tamilisai said from being cautious about bursting crackers, now people have been made anxious and scared.

In a statement to convey her Diwali greetings to people, Tamilisai said, “Everyone’s life should flourish and the lives of the firecracker workers should also prosper.”

A couple of days ago, Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan triggered a controversy by stating that if police would punish children for bursting crackers. “90% of those lighting fireworks are children, mostly school goers. Will the law be imposed on them? Court directions should be something that are practically implementable,” he said.
