MUMBAI: A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act court on Saturday sentenced a man, who is now 20 years old, to 10 years for repeatedly sodomising an 8-year-old boy from his building. The accused used to make another boy keep vigil while he sexually abused the child on the terrace of the building.

Special public prosecutor Geeta Sharma said several witnesses, including the victim, deposed. The matter came to light after the child confided in his tuition teacher. The teacher told the court that on February 6, 2017, when she scolded the other boy [who was made to keep vigil] for not doing his homework, the victim said that the boy was playing. The other boy then said that he would tell on the victim's "bad acts" to the teacher.

The teacher then took the victim into confidence and the child told her that the accused used to take him to the terrace of the building every Sunday and sexually assault him. The teacher said that when she asked the other boy about this, he reluctantly corroborated what the victim had mentioned.

The other boy said that the accused used to threaten the victim. The teacher said she then called the victim's mother and told her about the assault.
