MUMBAI: Scores of citizens and animal activists took out a march at Bandra's Carter Road on Sunday evening to protest the illegal killing of tigress T1 (Avni) in Maharashtra, and to plan out a future agitation to stop such indiscriminate killing of wild animals within core forest areas.
The protesters also held up banners and posters such as 'Shame on Govt for Killing Avni', and vowed to pressurise government representatives to prevent such tragic wildlife acts, which are mainly done for vested interests like starting factories in forest zones.
"Presence of tigers and their cubs means that no developmental activities like having factories can take place inside forests. Only if we the people show up in large numbers can a difference be made to protect our forests and wildlife," said activist Anand Siva at the event which was organised by activist Vijay Mohanani.
Another big rally is likely to be held for this wildlife cause at Worli Seaface on November 11.
