HYDERABAD: A 32-year-old man was arrested by Panjagutta police for stealing gold ornaments from the house of two doctors in the same apartment. The accused is K Mahesh, a resident of Somajiguda, and his father works as a watchman in that apartment.

According to police, Mahesh is addicted to alcohol and had earlier borrowed Rs 70,000 from a friend by lying that his mother needs treatment. “The victims — Dr Sandhya and Dr Vankat Ramana — reside in Sai Shakti Apartments. They used to give house keys to the watchman before leaving for work. The accused stole the keys and made duplicate keys,” said Panjagutta additional inspector N Ashok.

“He stole 11.5 tola gold ornaments from Dr Sandhya’s house and 9 tola gold ornaments from Dr Venkat’s house. After a complaint was filed, police questioned him. He confessed that he kept the gold ornaments at his friend’s house who is unaware that it is stolen property,” added Ashok.

The stolen property worth around Rs 3 lakh was seized and he was booked under Section 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
