After being friends for decades, the Oscar-winning Australian stars are finally starring in a film together - Boy Erased.

And actress Nicole Kidman, 51, has recalled the 'wild' party where she first met fellow actor Russell Crowe, 54.

Nicole told The Courier Mail that she had met Russell at a party she threw at her former home in Darlinghurst with her then-boyfriend many years ago.

'Russell drank champagne out of my shoe,' she recalled with laughter.

The Award-winning actress said that the Gladiator star remembers it differently, as he claims she had snubbed him the entire evening.

Fortunately their friendship developed overtime both as actors in Australian productions and in the US.

'I have an enormous amount of love and affection for him because we have been friends literally our whole life. I think it's an admirable thing when you forge your way through, decade after decade,' she added.

But Nicole, who is married to country superstar Keith Urban, jokingly insisted, 'I am sure he drank champagne out of my shoe! And even though he is like, "No, I didn't do it!" That is us.'

Boy Erased is the first time Nicole and Russell have worked together on a film, with director and fellow Australian, Joel Edgerton, behind the casting.

The drama that deals with a young man's experience of being forced to join a gay conversion therapy program by his parents.

Joel revealed to Variety that part of the reason why Nicole and Russell were cast in they film was because of their well established acting careers.

'Getting really high-level actors involved was a way to reach a wider audience and to have a louder voice,' he said.
