Some Arsenal magic ends with a scoffed up shot. Arsenal work the ball from the back all the way to the Liverpool box with around four passes. Aubameyang is played in by a brilliant backheeled layoff by Ozil and the Gabon international's shot rolls wide of the post.
Arsenal now at the other end of the pitch and Liverpool just about manage to keep them from getting a direct line at goal. Bellerin takes a shot and it is wide.
Salah puts the ball in from the right, Virgil Van Dijk controls it with his chest and lines up a volley, Bernd Leno does well to save it. Moments after that, Salah cuts in from the right, weaves his way between two defenders before passing it to free-as-a-bird Robertson on the left. Robertson's shot is filled with venom and swerve but it is straight at the keeper who does well to hold on to it.
Mane puts the ball in the back of the net but the goal is disallowed for offside. Firmino and Mane were forward when the ball was looped into the box. The Brazilian picked it up and took the shot that was saved by the keeper but it fell straight onto Mane's foot and it went in. Not sure if it was disallowed for Mane's offside or Firmino.
The Arsenal slickness is coming into play now. Mkhitaryan comes close with a headed effort but the ball goes just wide of the post.
Xhaka makes a pass forward, Ozil leaves it for Aubameyang who takes the shot, Gomez makes a brilliant tackle to put the ball out of play. The resultant corner is worked like a geometry diagram with Ozil passing it along the ground to Aubameyang and the latter laying it off for Xhaka at the edge of the box. The Swiss' shot lacked power.
Liverpool's gegenpressing is making it difficult for Arsenal to hold on to the ball inside their own half. Fortunately for them, the away side is squandering possession just as effectively as they are taking it. Milner is the latest culprit as he passes the ball into nothingness really and it rolled out for a goalkick.
A loose pass by Torreira gifts the ball to Salah on the right of the of box. He plays it square to Wijnaldum whose effort is woefully off target.
Xhaka lifts the ball to an offside Aubameyang up ahead of him. That is the second time that Aubameyang has been caught offside already.
Kolasinac squares the ball for Lacazette but the latter is not able to control the ball in the box. Allison smothers it.
Liverpool kicked off proceedings at the Emirates. There are dressed in purple, Arsenal in their home colours, Claudio Ranieri was in the stands.
