PUNE: After a hiatus of six years, finally there is good news for teachers. Going by State Education Minister Vinod Tawde’s assurance, recruitment of teachers will start soon in the state.

In his tweet on Friday, Tawde said that recruitment orders for 4,738 teaching and non-teaching positions have been approved for senior colleges across the State.

Accordingly, colleges and universities will be instructed to start filling up the posts soon.

However, this is only 25 per cent of the total vacancies of teaching and non-teaching staff. As reported earlier by Sakal Times, around 18,309 teaching and non-teaching posts are vacant, Director of Higher Education Dhanraj Mane had said.

“The number of posts opened for recruitment are merely 20 per cent. Nevertheless, the procedure to recruit teaching and non-teaching staff has begun after a long time. So I consider it as a positive move by the State government,” said PS Lawande, President of Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisation (MFUCTO). The organisation recently staged a 15-day strike against the State government demanding lifting of the ban on appointments. Officials from the minister’s office said that the process has now started to fill up vacant posts. Continued on P2

He said there is a tendency for pets to get loose motions or excessive urination because of noise and fear, hence it is recommended to divide the amount of food given to them during the day in smaller portions and more times than usual.

“Do not give sleeping pills or calming medications to your pets without consulting a vet as these might have severe side-effects. Also, you could go for homoeopathic medicines which are better as they do not have side-effects. If your pet gets repeated seizures because of the noise, take them to a vet, or even better, invite a vet home to check and calm it down,” Bhokre added. In the initial phase 4,738 posts have been approved so far. Gradually more recruitment will happen.

Tawde said, “It has been in discussion that for many years several posts in universities and colleges have remained vacant. Considering the academic loss of students due to shortage of staff, the State government has decided to recruit permanent professors instead of having professors on clock hour basis. The recruitment will take place according to the laid norms.”

He also announced in his tweet that remuneration for teachers on clock hour basis has been doubled as per the newly issued directive.
