The Forest Department captured a tusker at Chippagere in Alur range on Friday.
The tusker, aged about 30-35 years, was sedated with a tranquilliser dart and captured.
Later in the evening, it was sent to Sakrebailu elephant camp in Shivamogga district.
Sivaram Babu, Deputy Conservator of Forests, told The Hindu:“The elephant was captured successfully around 3.30 p.m. It is in good health.”
The department had permission to capture two trouble-causing elephants in Alur and Sakleshpur taluks. Another elephant identified for capturing is in musth. The officers have suspended the operation for a day on Saturday.
“Later, we will launch the operation to attach radio collars to two more female elephants,” the officer said.
