MUMBAI: Heavy traffic was seen across city roads on Saturday evening. The traffic flow was especially slow on Western Express Highway with the metro rail work making it difficult for motorists, said traffic police officials.
"We mapped locations prone to jams and deployed forces at such spots," said additional commissioner of police S Veeresh Prabhu. "As it is a weekend, many are going out of town and that is adding to the heavy traffic." Traffic police officials said such jams could be expected for the next few days as many will be out shopping for Diwali.
Across shopping hubs of Andheri (west), traffic crawled. Half-a-kilometre long snarls unfolded in Lokhandwala Complex, which is hosting its annual shopping festival. Also, motorists slowed down to soak in the beauty of overhead lighting and to shoot pictures on cellphones. Link Road nearby where a number of malls are located saw dense traffic as Diwali parking coupled with Metro Rail construction. S V Road and Municipal Market Road was bustling with buyers.
