The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), in the run-up to elections next month, is focusing on ‘women constituencies’ by organising women-only meetings.

“This election, Majlis is organising women-only events in each constituency to listen to the problems of women voters and work harder for them,” MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted on Saturday, mentioning that he will be participating in a ladies’ group meeting in Talab Katta on Sunday.

Sources said the party has organised four such women-only meetings thus far, the latest at Gauhar Gulshan Hall in Moghalpura, Charminar assembly constituency. The previous ones were organised in Toli Chowk, Karwan assembly constituency, Farooq Nagar, Bahadurpura assembly constituency and Malakpet.

In due course of the meeting, the women brought to the attention of Mr Owaisi and the party's ‘Charminar candidate Mumtaz Ahmed Khan what they called exorbitant house rents. They also pointed out the need for access to affordable housing.

Addressing women’s concerns, Mr Owaisi said, “House rents and sickness (healthcare) are big issues.”

The Hyderabad Parliamentarian assured participants that the party would ensure that those in need would be allotted 2BHK houses. He also encouraged women belonging to other communities to come forward with their problems.

“It is our sincere effort, I promise you, to have at least three such meetings every year. We will talk to them, listen to them and see what can be done. Good ideas can come from such meetings. It is not necessary that only men will have good ideas. I believe ladies have more brains than men,” Mr Owaisi said.
