56% less rain in city in Oct

PUNE: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), central India registered 62 pc deficit in rainfall in October. During the same time, Maharashtra recorded 82 pc less rainfall while Pune had 56 pc less rainfall than the average.

The country recorded 56 pc deficient post-monsoon rainfall between October 1 and October 31. Northwest India was 77 pc deficient followed by east and northeast India with 63 pc deficiency in rainfall. Central India reported 62 pc deficiency while the southern peninsula reported 41 per cent rainfall deficiency. According to IMD officials, the northeast monsoon rain commenced over remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and adjoining north Kerala, south interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema on Friday.

MAHARASHTRA SCENARIO
In October, Maharashtra recorded 82 per cent rainfall deficiency during the post-monsoon season. In four major areas of the State, there has been a severe rainfall deficit.

In Vidarbha, there was 99 per cent less rainfall. In drought-prone Marathwada, it was 87 per cent. Central Maharashtra had 75 per cent deficient rainfall while Konkan and Goa recorded 58 per cent deficiency as reported by the IMD.

According to the forecast issued by the IMD, central Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa will experience rainfall on November 3 and 4. 

CITY’S CONDITION
Pune reported a deficiency of 56 per cent in rainfall in October. Against the average rainfall of 82.7 mm, the city received only 36.1 mm rainfall in this month.

The city is likely to experience partly cloudy skies on November 3 followed by a clear sky till November 8. The day temperatures would be around 33 degrees Celcius while the night temperature will be around 15 degrees Celsius.
