
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the apex court’s Secretary General Ravindra Maithani for elevation as a judge of the Uttarakhand High Court.
The Collegium, comprising the three most senior judges —- Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph —- which met here on October 31 also approved the names of judicial officers Narayan Singh Dhanik and Ramesh Chandra Khulbe as judges of the High Court.
Maithani served as Additional District and Sessions Judge in Dehradun and Registrar General of Uttarakhand High Court before joining the Supreme Court as a Registrar in September 2010. He became Secretary General of the apex court in May 2013, but went back to judicial work as District Judge in Almora in November 2014. He returned to the Supreme Court in December 2015 during the tenure of Chief Justice of India T S Thakur and has held the post of Secretary General since then.
The highest judicial appointments body also recommended appointing Judicial Officer Akshaya Kumar Mishra as judge of Orissa High Court. The High Court Collegium has proposed names of four judicial officers, but the SC Collegium decided to return three names to the HC for reconsideration.
The SC Collegium also approved the names of 13 judicial officers from a list of 15 for appointment as judges of Allahabad High Court.
