MOHALI: Giving no relief to the Derabassi industries facing closure for violating pollution norms, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to file a status report on the green and white category industries. The next hearing will be held on November 13.
During a hearing on Friday, the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) had informed NGT that in compliance with the orders, power connections of 57 industries listed for closure had been disconnected.
On Wednesday, PSPCL had disconnected the power connections of all the 57 industries named in the order, following the PPCB directive.
PSPCL executive engineer Kuldeep Singh said, "We have submitted the affidavits of compliance declaring that power connections of all 57 industries have been severed. The NGT has given no relief to the factories so far, but the tribunal has directed CPCB to file a status report about the green and white category industries."
The industries falling under these categories are declared pollution-free and thus do not need to seek NOCs from the pollution control board.
Owners of some of the industries falling under the green and white categories have appealed to the court stating that they do not need NOCs from the board, Singh said.
On October 27, an NGT bench comprising Justice Raghuvendra S Rathore and judicial member Satyawan Singh Garbyal had issued orders for the closure of around 57 industries in the Derabassi are of Mohali for causing environmental degradation.
The closure order had been issued for three type of violations - the industries operating without the consent of the pollution board; functioning in the premises belonging to someone else or of a closed industry and the ones which have polluted ground water.
