Its roughly the same size as 11 football fields!
The high winds didn't phase these construction workers, strapped in and harnessed up, as work chugs along on eastern washington's first amazon fullfment ceneter1:50:07 sally smith director of operations "we are on schedule, its about 640 thousand square feet, and we will have all the cool stuff in here when it opens."
Sorting all that cool stuff, will eventually be 1500 employees paid at minimum 15 dollars an hour.
Hiring for those positions will be announced a few months prior to its official opening no word on when that will be, but there's already been a boon of local hiring for construction.
1:50:59 smith"we have already created 300 jobs, before the doors are even attached to the building."if you went inside this architectural monster when its done, she says you'd find amazon's usual shipping and sorting tech.
Stuff like this, video'd at other fulfiment centers.1:53:41 smith "different areas of robotics, that helps us deliver to customers faster and tons of conveyance."as local leaders signed this central beam today, and it was then installed, the construction manager for the site says its full steam ahead.
2:04:52 talati"you can see the lower portion of the skin is up, and above that will be metal panels."2:04:07 talati"you have the slab on the ground floor and three elevated levels."the magnitude of this construction evident in these stats2:05:41"you have about 80 thousand cubic yards of concrete being poured, 25 thousand tons of steel."for reference, that's 34 olympic swimming pools worth of concrete.
