Though not many physically challenged people had enrolled for pick-up and drop facility on the ‘Chunavana’ app, some booths saw more than the enrolled numbers (which was as low as 25 out of the 55,000 eligible persons with disability in the five segments) coming to vote.
Nagaraja, a resident of Kothathi in Mandya, told The Hindu that officials had sent an autorickshaw to his residence and offered the pick-and-drop service.
“The officials gave me some flowers and chocolates at the polling station,” Ningaiah of Srirangapatna town, who cast his vote at the local polling station that had a wheelchair and ramp, said.
District administrations had offered pick-and-drop service, wheelchairs, ramps, drinking water, and other basic infrastructure, as per the guidelines formulated by the Election Commission, to ensure that physically challenged people comfortably exercise their franchise, a senior revenue officer said.
