The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Friday summoned three police personnel from Tiruvannamalai district and former CPI (M) legislator P. Dillibabu on the latter’s complaint that he was manhandled by them in June and that his complaint over the incident was not investigated by the police.
The Commission directed Deputy Superintendent of Police Sundaramoorthi, sub-inspectors Muthukumarasamy and Ramachandran from Chengam in Tiruvannamalai as well as the complainant to appear for an inquiry in Chennai at 10.30 a.m. on December 12.
If they failed to comply with the summons without lawful excuse, a final decision in the proceedings shall be taken by the Commission in their absence under the Code of Civil Procedure.
Charged with false cases
In his complaint, the former MLA claimed that he was attacked by the respondents in a restaurant at Kariamangalam on June 26 and he was intimidated when he was in custody in the Pudupalayam police station the same day. He also claimed that false cases were foisted on him and his party workers.
The complainant also said that his complaint over the incident to Superintendent of Police of Tiruvannamalai district on July 3 was not acted upon and investigated and hence the complaint.
