Thousands of Google employees around the world walked off their jobs for a while on Thursday to protest against the company’s response to sexual harassment. Dubbed ‘Google Walkout,’ the staff their jobs for a while on Thursday to protest against the company’s response to sexual harassment. Dubbed ‘Google Walkout,’ the staff was reacting to a New York Times investigation which found that executives accused of sexual harassment got multi-million dollar severance packages. They demanded that the world’s largest search engine, which employs over 80,000 people, must address rising concerns about workplace inequality. Reuters reported that the protests took place in Asia, Europe and North America, and at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California. The protests followed the report that Google in 2014 gave a $90 million exit package to senior vice-president Andy Rubin after he was accused of sexual harassment. Google did not dispute the report. Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai said he was taking note of the “concrete steps” workers presented to improve the company’s culture.
