A Sudanese national, who was allegedly trying to smuggle out foreign currency worth ₹40 lakh, was detained by sleuths of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) here on Saturday.
During baggage screening at the International SHA (IIDT) around 7 a.m., CISF constable Srilatha found suspicious articles in the hand baggage of Zienab Saber Elivour Elbashier (30), who was about to board Dubai-bound flight EK-527.
In a statement here, the CISF officials said that the woman passenger was not in possession of valid documents for the seized 2,23,000 Saudi riyals, which was equivalent to ₹ 40 lakh in Indian currency.
The woman, along with the seized currency, was handed over to Custom officials at the RGIA. The officials said CISF Inspector-General C. V. Anand lauded the alertness of woman officer Srilatha.
