Seven Hills factory complex goes up in flames
A large Seven Hills factory complex has gone up in flames, causing heavy traffic delays.
Emergency services responded to the fire, which started about 12.45pm on Saturday near the corner of Prospect Highway and Abbott Road. NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, and NSW Fire and Rescue all attended the scene.
Footage on social media showed the surrounding Seven Hills area engulfed in smoke.
Meanwhile, about 100 firefighters and 25 NSW Fire and Rescue trucks were working in rotation to extinguish the blaze despite scorching 30-degree weather conditions.
An air conditioning and refrigerator company were among the several businesses housed in the affected complex, a NSW Fire and Rescue spokesman confirmed, adding that some buildings collapsed due to fire damage.
Several explosions also occured on the site, believed to be caused by the cylinders of refrigerated gas inside the factory unit on fire, the spokesman confirmed.
All occupants have been accounted for and there were no reported injuries.
Prospect Highway was closed south-bound at Station Road and Lucas Road, causing heavy traffic conditions, according to Live Traffic NSW.
Drivers were advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route.
NSW Fire and Rescue urged residents living upwind to stay inside and keep their doors and windows closed to avoid smoke inhalation.
