Track-Focused Lexus RC F GT Flexes Its Muscles Before The Big Debut

Lexus is at the Nurburgring testing the track-focused variant of the RC F we showed you a while ago, which will reportedly be named the GT.

If the name rings a bell, it’s because Lexus showcased an RC F GT concept back in 2015. That was around 800 pounds (360kg) lighter than the standard RC F due to the extensive use of carbon fiber.

That leads us to believe that the production RC F GT will also use the same material (albeit at a lower extent) to trim the coupe’s rather chubby weight figure of 4,056 pounds (1,840 kg).

The upcoming RC F GT will be of course based on the recently facelifted RC, which comes with changes such as new headlights and interior upgrades. As you can see from the spy shots, the GT will come with a big wing at the back, wider fenders and more aggressive front and rear bumpers.

In comparison with the regular RC F, the GT will feature performance parts like stickier tires, bigger brakes, a sportier suspension setup and perhaps a freer-flowing exhaust, with the four tailpipes still stain the characteristic for Lexus F models way.

Once it hits the market, the Lexus RC F GT will stand out in its segment as the only model offered with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine. We’re not sure yet if the automaker is planning to extract a few more ponies from the 477hp V8 unit, though that would make sense.

Even so, it appears that Lexus is focusing more on handling, and if it does reduce the car’s weight, that could be good news for driving enthusiasts indeed.

Since Lexus has already revealed the facelifted RC Coupe, it’s only a matter of time before we get to find out all the information on the RC F GT. The Los Angeles Auto Show is right around the corner, and then we have the Detroit Motor Show in January, so expect the sports coupe to show up in either of the two events.
