Harpreet Nagar burglary: 1 accused arrested, 2 more identified
TNN | Nov 3, 2018, 07:09 ISTLudhiana: The Jodhewal police on Friday arrested one accused who executed a burglary at the house of a property dealer in Harpreet Nagar of Bahadur Ke Road. The accused was captured in a CCTV installed near the house.
The arrested accused is Gurpreet Singh, while the police have identified two more accused as Paramjit Singh (the younger brother of Gurpreet), and Naresh Kumar — all residents of Sultanpur Garhi village in Amritsar. All the three accused were living in a rented accommodation at Bahadur Ke Road. The police have also recovered some gold and silver jewellery worth Rs30,000 from his possession, apart from five mobile phones, which were not burgled from the house.
On Thursday afternoon, three burglars had targeted the house of the property dealer when it was locked. While one barged into the house after scaling the wall and escaped with Rs1.5 lakh in cash, 500g gold jewellery, $700, and 400 euros, another accused stayed outside the house to keep a watch. A CCTV installed near the house captured a man scaling the wall carrying a screwdriver with him. The CCTV also captured the accused were walking around the house while talking on the phone, minutes earlier. A third person was also involved in the burglary, who was standing some distance away from the house. He was not captured on CCTV.
Victim Onkar Koldar, a property dealer, said on Thursday afternoon that he was at his office, while his family had gone to a religious place. He reached home around 4pm. The main door was locked, while the lobby door was broken open and the house ransacked. The accused broke open the locks of almirahs and escaped with gold and cash.
The SHO at Jodhewal police station, Madhavi Sharma, said the police had arrested one accused, while two more had been identified. So far, the police have not found any criminal record of the accused. However, investigation is on. The accused was arrested from near Bahadur Ke Road, following a tip-off.
