A total of 2,064 graduating students will be awarded degrees/diplomas; 378 will be awarded their PhDs. This year, the President’s Gold Medal will be awarded to Rajesh Kumar (BTech, mechanical engineering), the Director’s Gold Medal will go to Sanjana Garg (BTech, chemical engineering) and the Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal will be awarded to MTech student Parikshit Pareek.

Former chairperson of Thermax Limited Anu Aga will be the chief guest at the event.

Speaking ahead of the convocation, IIT-Delhi Director V. Ramgopal Rao said the institute is moving towards a more interdisciplinary approach to doing research so that researchers at IIT-D do no just make prototypes but solve various problems in the country. He said that the institute will soon start a centre dedicated to electric vehicles, which will combine engineering, policy and design requirements of the industry.

Another centre will be dedicated to cyber-physical systems. Both centres will be functional within a year, he said.

Mr. Rao added that IIT-Delhi was looking to collaborate with various research institutes in the NCR such as AIIMS to conduct joint research so that students from all research institutes will be able to network and collaborate on research.
