Surrounding buildings were evacuated and one person was injured.

NSW Fire and Rescue Acting Superintendent Steve Brown urged nearby residents to close their windows to avoid the smoke.

Authorities set up a 2km exclusion zone and residents said they heard explosions as the fire took hold.

The industrial park is also home to an NRMA car servicing centre, and medical equipment and security system suppliers.

The fire caused traffic chaos in the area with Prospect Highway closed in both directions from Station Street to Lucas Street and other roads congested.

Singer, founded more than 160 years ago, is the world's most popular brand of sewing machines with more than 43 per cent of U.S. sales.
