The All India Namasudra Vikash Parishad (AINVP), a scheduled caste group, threatened to intensify its protest against the “persecution” of Bengali-speaking people in Assam.

AINVP, which has presence both in West Bengal and Assam, is part of a platform of 23 Bengali organisations called Bengali United Forum. It has been protesting against the implementation of NRC in Assam.

“Our member organisation Assam Bengali Federation has called for a bandh in Assam. We are supporting this bandh and we will hold protest rallies in Assam- West Bengal border areas on Saturday. From November 5, we will organise protest movements at Kamakhyaguri border for an indefinite period to protest against the persecution of Bengalis,” Mukul Chandra Bairagya, working president of AINVP, said.

Bairagya alleged that the attack on five Bengali speaking people in Assam was carried out after AINVP made attempts to join hands with TMC to contest all 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

“We believe that the ruling party in Assam was involved in the incident and it was a fallout of the NRC issue,” Bairagya told The Indian Express.
