More than 2000 educationists to attend CISCE's diamond jubilee in Kolkata on Friday

KOLKATA: More than 700 principals and 1500 teachers from ICSE schools from across the country will be in the city on Friday to attend the diamond jubilee function of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations.

The programme at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town with former president Pranab Mukherjee as the chief guest and education minister Partha Chatterjee as the distinguished guest will be a celebration of the contribution made by the central board in imparting education to several generations in different parts of the country.

"It is a very special occasion for all of us including all the affiliated schools. We are thankful to our founder chairman Frank Anthony and founder secretary Albert Barrow," said Gerry Arathoon, the chief executive and the secretary of the council.


Kolkata was chosen as the venue of the celebrations owing to the high number of ICSE schools in the city and the rest of the state. The programme on Friday evening will be streamed live on the website of CISCE.


This is the first time in recent history that so many educationists are converging in Kolkata for such an illustrious function.


"In a diverse country like India where each state has its own board, the council has been educating generations for the past 6 decades and the curriculum and the methodology is accepted worldwide which is why our students have made it to the most prestigious institutions abroad," said Sujoy Biswas, principal Ram Mohan Mission School and president of the association of the heads of ICSE Schools in West Bengal and the North East who was also a part of the organising team of Friday's function.


The inaugural meeting of the council was held on November 3, 1958 after a meeting of Inter-State Board for Anglo-Indian Education, a proposal was adopted for setting up of an Indian council to administer the University of Cambridge, Local Examinations Syndicate's Examination in India and, to advise the Syndicate on the best way to adapt its examination to the needs of the country.
