BMRCL has increased security checkpoints

Over the last couple of weeks, Namma Metro ridership has consistently hit the four-lakh mark, and is set to increase as more six-coach trains are inducted. BMRCL officials estimate that it was likely to rise to 4.75 lakh in the coming months.

However, for people travelling during peak commuting hours, this often translates into long queues at security checkpoints. For instance, at busy stations such as Baiyappanahalli and Indiranagar in the evening, it could take a commuter several minutes just to finish security check.

At Majestic interchange station, the BMRCL has opened one more security checkpoint to ease the queues. “We had built a subway from Shanthala Silk side, but there was no security checkpoint. Now, that is in place, and passengers are using the subway,” said BMRCL MD Ajay Seth.

The BMRCL has also set up a security checkpoint at the footbridge connecting the metro station with KSRTC and BMTC bus stands.

“We will work on deploying more security men at the metro stations wherever it is taking more time for the passengers to get in,” Mr. Seth added.

To help clear platforms faster, the BMRCL has increased the number of short-loop trains between Majestic interchange station and Baiyappanahalli. Earlier, seven loop trains were operated; this has now been increased by two.

An official said, “After the induction of two six-coach trains, the loop trains originating from M.G. Road and Vijayanagar metro stations have been cancelled. We are operating short-loop trains from Majestic towards Baiyappanahalli during peak hours, depending on the rush. We see lots of passengers on Mondays and Fridays, and depending on the rush, we operate more trains.”

Alterations in trips

The BMRCL has made alterations in trips. Now, there are eight trips of six-coach trains during the peak hours on the Purple Line.

A total of 180 trips on the Purple Line and 133 trips on Green Line are operated every day.
