Ex-student leader shot in Allahabad University hostel

ALLAHABAD: A 29-year-old former student leader of Allahabad University, Achyutanand Shukla alias Sumit, was shot dead allegedly by three other student leaders, including the president of CMP Degree College students' union Ashutosh Tripathi, in the hostel on early Thursday.
"An FIR under Section 302 of IPC has been lodged against three student leaders - Ashutosh Tripathi, Harikesh Misra and Saurabh Singh alias Prince - with Colonelganj police. Two police teams have been constituted to arrest the culprits," police said.
According to police, the incident took place around 1am on Thursday in the hostel at Colonelganj, when a group of student leaders were attending the birthday party of AUSU ex-general secretary Nirbhay Dwivedi near the hostel mess. "After the party got over, Achyutanand, his brother, and several others were chatting. Suddenly, Ashutosh, Harikesh and Saurabh approached Achyutanand and shot him from behind and fled," said police.
Shukla, a native of Gonda and wanted by police in over six criminal cases, was also carrying Rs 25,000 cash reward on his head. Police had been looking for him during the recently-held AUSU polls. Shukla was first taken to a nursing home from where the doctors referred him to SRN Hospital. He succumbed to the injuries during treatment..
