AHMEDABAD: The police’s claim that peace and law and order reign over the city was battered by the complaint of a 33-year-old man who says he was beaten by two persons because he had tried to stop them from stalking his wife.

The complainant is Rohit Patel, a resident of Thaltej area of the city and a supervisor at a private hospital. He has stated in his complaint with the Vastrapur police that his wife, Daksha Patel, called him on Wednesday morning and said that two men were stalking her and making obscene gestures.

“I was on duty at the hospital in Drive-in area when my wife called me,” said Patel in the FIR. “She said the men were following her and asking her to sit with them on their bike.” Patel asked his wife to come to the hospital. “When my wife reached the hospital, the two men were still following her,” said Patel. “I also saw the two men making obscene gestures to my wife. I confronted the men. They began abusing me and then severely thrashed me.”

Patel said that the men were in their 30s. Vastrapur police registered a case of stalking, attacking and abetment. Police have also started gathering CCTV footage of the area to ascertain the identity of the two men.
