MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Thursday suggested to the BMC that it take up identification of illegal structures through satellite mapping as a pilot project in a ward. The court was hearing petitions about mushrooming of unauthorised structures across the state.

The court was informed that the Nashik Municipal Corporation had started studying satellite maps regularly to identify unauthorised structures. In 2016, the state had brought forth a policy on satellite mapping of all cities every six months to identify illegal structures.

The state had also started implementing GIS mapping for property survey assessment in 370 cities.
