JALANDHAR: Three youths were killed and one was injured when their car hit the central verge on the Jalandhar-Amritsar national highway near Pathankot chowk late on Wednesday. The police said they were returning to Amritsar from a party and were drunk when the accident took place.

The deceased have been identified as Naresh, Sonu and Pawan. Their injured friend Aakash has been admitted to a private hospital with serious injuries. They were travelling in a Tata Indica car.

Division no. 8 SHO Hina Gupta said that the youths, all in their late 20s, hailed from Amritsar and were returning after attending a party in Jalandhar. She said it was evident they were drunk and apparently the driver lost control over the speeding car and hit the central verge. She said liquor bottles were also found in the car.
