Distressed after her husband's death, Madhumita Rai received help in unexpected ways. The person, who used to deliver food to her everyday turned out to be the biggest help in need. Rai became a widow on Tuesday with no help around when Samar Pal, the food deliverer not only helped her but also got a senior woman to help Rai further

Rai had come with a relative and father of her husband two months ago to get him treated. A driver in Bardhaman village in West Bengal, he was suffering from cancer.

"He was admitted in KEM and after a week, his father and other family members left. When my husband died on Tuesday, my husband's family refused to talk or come," said Rai.

It was then that Rai informed Pal and Pal got her in touch with Bulbul Rai, another native of Bengal who helps those coming from West Bengal but cannot communicate on what they want to tell doctors when they come for treatment.

"When I spoke to her, she told me that her husband's father has refused to come and even asked her not to get his son's body. When I called on the number, her niece did not allow me to talk to her husband's father. She said he is unwell and that we do not know the history of the family and with what authority am I talking. We went to police station and they said they cannot do anything at this stage," said Bulbul who sells sweaters around the hospital.

That is when the group got together to help the widow. "The doctors too realized that she does not have money and waived some part of bill. We have managed to get her body and arranged for her tickets. She will be leaving tonight. I know people who send bodies to other cities and we have made arrangements for that too. One of her brother and her husband's friends will be coming to pick her up," said Bulbul.
