HYDERABAD: A 37-year-old welder and his 11-year-old daughter suffered burns after domestic LPG cylinder leak triggered a blast at their flat at Shankar Nagar, Chandanagar, on Thursday morning. The man, B Ganesh, who suffered 50% burns, is reportedly critical, while his daughter, Sree Priya, is said to be out of danger.
Around 7am, the locality was jolted by a huge blast at the flat of Ganesh in a G+3 apartment complex. The injured man and his daughter, a class 5 student, were rushed to hospital, police said. “Ganesh is critical with at least 50% burns, while Sree Priya, who sustained minor burns on her hand and face, is out of danger. Ganesh’s wife and mother-in-law managed to escape with no injuries, but are in shock because of the incident,” Chandanagar sub-inspector Bhaskar said.
“Ganesh was staying on the first floor of the building with his wife Lavanya, mother-in-law Rathna and daughter Sree Priya. We suspect gas leakage might have happened at night and when Ganesh switched on lights in the morning, a spark triggered the blast,” Chandanagar inspector B. Ravinder said.
Due to the impact, the ceiling of the house and the main door got damaged, while a small portion of the side wall collapsed, police said. However, fire control room was not alerted. “As locals extinguished the fire, no fire tenders were sent to the area,” Patancheru station fire officer Janiah said.
“Someone alerted police on ‘Dial 100’, but by the time we reached, the locals managed to douse the flame. Ganesh and his daughter were rushed to Citizens Specialty Hospital, later they were shifted to DRDO Apollo for treatment,” SI Bhaskar added.
