Mangaluru: Man held for growing ganja in his backyard

MANGALURU: Police on Friday arrested a man who was growing ganja in his backyard in Mangaluru.
The police also seized 225g marijuana worth Rs 6,000.
The arrested person has been identified as Haris (32), a resident of Kodenkeri, Kodimbala in Puttur Taluk.
According to sub-inspector Nanda Kumar MM, police, acting on a tip-off, went near KSRTC bus stand in Nelyadi around 12.45pm. They noticed that a person was sitting there with a yellow bag and when he noticed police, he tried flee from the spot. However, he was caught and arrested. During the interrogation, police found that he was possessing ganja and was trying to sell it to the people.
Further interrogation revealed that accused was growing ganja in his backyard for the past several months. After drying it, he used to sell it in various places. Police, who have visited the spot, said that his house is close to forest area and none could notice the illegal cultivation of ganja.
A case has been registered under NDPS Act at Uppinangady police station.
