Accused, who strangulated him, held

A 46-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 38-year-old man in a fight over filling fuel first at a petrol pump in Dwarka’s Chhawla, the police said on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said Sushil has been arrested for allegedly strangulating Sanjay on the night of October 24.

Phone switched off

The police received a call around 11 p.m. regarding a quarrel at the petrol pump but “could not reach the spot because of incomplete address and caller’s phone being switched off”.

About half an hour later, they received another information from Rao Tula Ram Memorial Hospital stating that a man has been brought dead.

“During enquiry, it was found that the man had been brought from the petrol pump where his car is parked and phone number is written at the back of the vehicle. He was identified as Sanjay, a resident of Sadh Nagar Palam,” Mr. Alphonse said.

An investigation revealed that the victim had a scuffle at the petrol with a man over getting the fuel filled first.

The duo then fought again near the air pump, the police said. “Sanjay was found lying unconscious there. The local enquiry also revealed that Sanjay broke accused’s car’s front glass. The CCTV of the pump was not working, therefore, the identity of the accused could not be ascertained,” Mr. Alphonse said. Eventually, the pump’s manager received a call from one Ramesh Dalal, a resident of Bahadurgarh, who enquired about the incident. The manager informed the police that Mr. Dalal was not found in his house and his phone was switched off.

“Investigation revealed that Sushil who was arrested on Wednesday, is a relative of Dalal,” Mr. Alphonse said.
