Decorative e-rickshaws to ferry devotees to Kumbh venue

The Prayagraj Mela Authority conducted a test run of a few of these decorated e-rickshaws in the city on FridayALLAHABAD: The Mela administration would ply decorated e-rickshaws with life-sized cartoon characters fixed to their roofs to ferry visitors to the vast venue of the Kumbh-2019 from parking lots.

"We recently issued an expression of interest, wherein interested companies had to supply around 400-500 such e-rickshaws. These battery-operated rickshaws would be used to transport devotees to the Mela area from the parking lots where, buses and other public transport would be parked," said deputy Mela Adhikari Rajeev Rai.
Rai said that these e-rickshaws would ply inside the Mela area only.
"For example, the buses would be parked at the far end of Phaphamau and the main Mela area would be around four kilometre away from the spot. These e-rickshaws would come in handy while transporting devotees to the main venue," he added.
He also said that rows of chequered plates would be placed on the sandy banks of Kumbh Mela to facilitate the movement of e-rickshaws.
