While the city police is taking pride in winning the 11th Urban Mobility India Award (UMI) 2018, Indoreans often spend a helluva lot time in jam sessions. A bumper-to-bumper situation due to the failed robot system is nothing new! The initiatives on paper are appreciable but on Ground Zero, the story is completely different. Hoping that the award plays the trick and good work to improve the condition of traffic, residents quote various issues that need to be worked upon.

Aim for no accidents
Traffic cop Ranjeet Singh and Sumant Singh are definitely good examples with their high-level energy. However, the true condition of roads is that no one wants to go back on them and handle all the stress of driving through the traffic. Ideally, people should be able to enjoy their commute and then we can even claim to be best in traffic management. Every third car has a scratch from an accident. It should not be about Less accidents, rather should be about No accidents.
Padma Shri Bhalu Mondhe
Large room for improvement
We cannot talk about traffic management in the city even till date. Traffic cop Ranjeet Singh as an individual deserves appreciation, but Indore’s traffic needs several modifications and improvement. Everyone is jumping traffic be it girls or boys, men or women so we have a large room for improvement for the cops.
Padma Shri Sushil Doshi
Plan to overcome shortcomings
Though there are initiatives, we have a lot of traffic issues that need to be ironed out. We lack basic facilities for the pedestrian. The path, if built somewhere, is taken over and used for parking, driving through and even religious establishments. Indore needs overbridges and a plan to overcome shortcomings of traffic management.
Padma Shri Abhay Chhajlani
People deserve credit
I would give credit to the people and not the management for a scenario where the number of accidents have come down. Traffic police’s initiatives are more based on paper as compared to ground work. It is the people of Indore, who avoid fights and accidents even on mismanaged roads. Let’s concentrate on people’s comfort more than awards.

Drive through to know issues
Indore still has jams everywhere and the commuters suffer through mismanaged traffic on the roads every day. Anyone who has driven through Indore’s traffic can quote a number of issues including jumping red lights, mostly non-functional traffic signals and lack of traffic cops.

Manager lost life in road accident recently
Indore was much better, well-managed and peaceful the city in 1952. We have changed into a concrete jungle, but I do not see any major improvements in terms of lifestyle or commute. A day before, a manager lost his life in a road accident. This is not the way to commute or live.
