Due to the festive demand and increase in dry weather consumption, the electricity price rose to a record of Rs 12.95 per unit, while its peak hour price soared to Rs 8.78 a unit in spot market. Less hydel and wind power generation and increased demand due to warm weather conditions which led to aggressive buying by the state power distribution companies of Maharashtra and Gujarat, could have led to the rise in electricity price. The prices are on the rise for the last 15 days and a lot of DISCOMs were selling their surpluses.
