People grab onions as truck turns turtle; driver injured

Pune: A truck carrying onion overturned on the old Pune Mumbai highway near Lonavla injuring the driver severely. The incident happened on the early Thursday morning. The driver is severely injured and is currently undergoing treatment at Lokmanya Hospital in Nidi. 

According to the highway police, the driver lost control over the vehicle while taking a turn. Because of high speed and a sharp turn, the truck skidded up to 100 metres before falling into a 30 feet deep gorge. 

Apparently, nearby people ignored the injured driver and started collecting the onions that lay on the road. The driver was shifted to the hospital by the highway police and IRB infrastructure officials. 

“The identity of the driver is not yet ascertained as he is still unconscious due to serious injuries,” said Sagar Dhanave of highway police. IRB officials cleared the road with the help of cranes and made way for other vehicles.
