RANCHI: Parvati, a six-month-old tiger cub at Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park in Ranchi died on Friday morning.
Parvati was born to tiger couple Anushka and Malik on April 6 this year along with two other cubs Lakshmi and Saraswati. She had a gall-bladder problem since birth, the park said in a statement issued in the evening.
Dr Ajay Kumar, the vet of the park, said, "The cub had an abnormal gall bladder. Post-mortem report said the death was caused by multi-organ failure due to obstructive jaundice. However, samples are being sent to Ranchi veterinary college and Indian Veterinary Research Institute (Uttar Pradesh) for further tests."
Parvati, Lakshmi and Saraswati were the first tiger cubs to be born at the zoo in 23 years. The park kept them isolated with their mother in a quaint area of the premises for two months to avoid contamination and diseases.
Anushka, the mother tigress, was brought here in 2016 from the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad. The cubs were fathered by Malik, a five-year-old male. Like Anushka, Malik was also raised in the Hyderabad zoo before he made Ranchi his home in May 2016.
