PUNE: District collector Naval Kishore Ram declared seven talukas in Pune district __ Daund, Baramati, Indapur, Shirur, Purandar, Velhe and Ambegaon — as “moderately drought affected” on Thursday.
The ground work was taken up for these seven talukas and a crop destruction report was sent to the state government, Ram told TOI. The overall crop damage is between 33 and 50 per cent with the kharif damage pegged between 45 and 48 per cent.
A central team is expected to visit and assess the ground situation for compensation. The state government declared drought in 151 talukas on Wednesday.
“All drought-relief measures and benefits will be given to the beneficiaries,’’ Ram said, after submitting the report.
The severity of the drought will be clear in a few months. A special report has been sent out for Junnar and Khed, as officials had registered crop damage here too.
The severity was high in Baramati, Indapur and Daund areas so the list of beneficiaries would be maximum in here.
Mulshi and Bhor areas had good rainfall. Certain areas saw crop damage below 33 per cent due to excessive rainfall and relief has been sought for them too. Circle-wise areas that were affected have been sent to the government, the officials added.
The state government on Wednesday declared “severe drought” in 112 of the 358 talukas of Maharashtra and placed 39 under “medium drought” category.
