Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal met Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat on Friday and alleged that names of several people, most of whom were party supporters, had been deleted from voters’ lists in the city. Kejriwal said that after the meeting, the Election Commission had agreed to a verification exercise.

“It is possible your name has been deleted, but you cannot check it on the Election Commission website because an old list is there. We have appealed to them (EC) to upload the names deleted till October 31,” Kejriwal said.

He added that people were not being given a chance to get their names added as the list of deleted names was not uploaded on the EC website. In his letter to the EC on Thursday, Kejriwal said that a look at the deleted names showed that most of these were Aam Aadmi Party or Congress voters.

Kejriwal claimed the EC told him that names of 10 lakh voters were deleted and that 13 lakh were added since December 2015, when the last assembly election was held in Delhi.

He added that the EC had agreed to a sample survey in Lal Kuan and Tughlaqabad in the presence of representatives of political parties.

“Most of the deleted names are those of our volunteers, family members of MLAs and others supporting the party,” he said, demanding “strict action” against officials found guilty in the matter.
