Birds of Prey will hit screens on February 7, 2020.
Trainspotting and Fargo actor Ewan McGregor is all set to star as Black Mask in the DC film Birds of Prey. Black Mask is a prominent Batman villain and has appeared in a number of important stories of Batman and Catwoman. A recent creation, the character first made its appearance in August, 1985. He is a sadistic and ruthless crime lord with a fascination for masks and torture.
McGregor’s Fargo co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead was already confirmed to play the role of Huntress. Jurnee Smollett-Bell will don the role of Black Canary and Rosie Perez is on board as Renee Montoya. Margot Robbie will also reprise her role of Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad. Chinese American filmmaker Cathy Yan is directing the movie.
Birds of Prey is basically a team of DC superheroines that currently (in comics) consists of Barbara Gordon or Batgirl, Black Canary and Huntress. It is not clear if Barbara Gordon will be a part of Birds of Prey. Her own standalone movie is also in development.
It is not clear how Black Mask comes into the picture. He may be the main villain of the film, with Harley Quinn oscillating between good and bad or being in her own team as she usually is.
Birds of Prey will hit screens on February 7, 2020.
